Gorman is an unincorporated community in northwestern Los Angeles County. Tens of thousands of motorists travel through it daily on Interstate 5. Gorman is a historic travel stop in Peace Valley, at the Tejon Pass which links Southern California with the San Joaquin Valley and Northern California.

1. Zuma Beach Malibu
Zuma Beach is a county beach located at 30000 Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California. One of the largest and most popular beaches in Los Angeles County, California, Zuma is known for its long, wide sands and excellent surf. It consistently ranks among the healthiest beaches for clean water conditions in Los Angeles County. The origin of the name of the beach may be related to the origin of the name of nearby [promontory] Point Dume. Point Dume was named by George Vancouver in 1793 in honor of Padre Francisco Dumetz of Mission San Buenaventura. The name was misspelled on Vancouver's map as Dume and was never corrected. On a plat map of the Rancho Topanga Malibu Sequit finally confirmed to new owner Matthew Keller in August 1870, the point is marked on the map as Point Zuma or Duma.

Fort Tejon: The Frontier History of California

You’ve probably driven up the Grapevine in California several times without realizing this important piece of history sat hiding in plain sight. Fort Tejon State Historic Park is located just off the I-5 between the cities of Castaic to the South and Grapevine to the North and played an important part in the early days of California.

Once a strategic army installation and headquarters of the United States Regiment of Dragoons in the 1850s, Fort Tejon is now operated by the California State Park's Department and demonstrations are generally conducted on the first Saturday of every month. A Frontier Army Days demonstration at Fort Tejon State Historic Park is a unique way to step back in time and witness history come to life. Demonstrations can include 1850s Army Barracks Life, Blacksmith Shop, Artillery Drill, Open Hearth Cooking and much more! Fun Fact: Huell Howser paid a visit to Fort Tejon in 1999 for his California Gold series!

You can make it a full day of adventure by also checking out some cool hiking spots in the surrounding area, such as the Wind Wolves Preserve on the outskirts of Bakersfield.

Thanksgiving Day, 2018. A very wet and fun day hike to East Fork Falls on the East Fork North Fork North Fork American River, in Tahoe National Forest, Emigrant Gap. On Thanksgiving we had our first (long overdue) substantial rain/snow storm in California. Of course the waterfall madman was out getting wet and hiking to waterfalls! East Fork Falls is a hidden gem on the EFNFNFAR, and getting to it in the rain and higher water was not only wet, but quite tricky!
