He was the Commanding Officer of the 1st Defense Battalion during the defense of Wake Island in December 1941. After his release in September 1945, he concluded his military career in 1948 and represented the second congressional district of the state of Maryland in the United States House of Representatives for four terms from 1951–1959. Aquatica San Diego
A seasonal water park. The former Knott's Soak City. It features a wide array of attractions for all ages and swimming abilities: wave pool, lazy river - hich passes by a Flamingo habitat, water slides, hoses, jets, geysers.

Seaport Village
A waterfront shopping and dining complex. Houses more than 70 shops, galleries, and eateries. Designed to be a car-free environment, with four miles (6 km) of winding paths rather than streets connecting the various buildings.

USS Midway Museum
A maritime museum located in downtown. Consists of the aircraft carrier Midway. The ship houses an extensive collection of aircraft. USS Midway was America's longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century, from 1945 to 1992.

Balboa Park
A 1,200-acre (490 ha) urban cultural park. In addition to open space areas, natural vegetation zones, green belts, gardens, and walking paths, it contains museums, several theaters, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo.

SeaWorld San Diego
An animal theme park, oceanarium, outside aquarium, and marine mammal park. As of December 2012, there are 26 animal habitats, 10 rides, 20 shows, 2 play areas, 4 limited-time events, and 11 distinctive experiences (such as swimming with dolphins).
