Sequoia National Park is an American national park in the southern Sierra Nevada east of Visalia, California. The park was established on September 25, 1890 to protect 404,064 acres of forested mountainous terrain. Encompassing a vertical relief of nearly 13,000 feet , the park contains the highest point in the contiguous United States, Mount Whitney, at 14,505 feet above sea level. The park is south of, and contiguous with, Kings Canyon National Park; the two parks are administered by the National Park Service together as the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. 1. Giant Forest Sequoia And Kings Canyon National Park
The Giant Forest, famed for its giant sequoia trees, is within the United States' Sequoia National Park. This montane forest, situated at over 6,000 feet above mean sea level in the western Sierra Nevada of California, covers an area of 1,880 acres . The Giant Forest is the most accessible of all giant sequoia groves, as it has over 40 miles of hiking trails. Five of the ten most massive trees on the planet are located within the Giant Forest. The largest of these, the General Sherman tree, measures 36.5 feet across the base. The giant sequoia tree is the most massive species of tree on earth, and one of just five tree species documented to grow to 300 feet in height . It is also among the longest-lived of all trees on the planet.

Top 5 Attractions in Sequoia National Park

Discover the Top 5 Attractions in Sequoia National Park. One of the wildest and finest areas of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, here you will find gorgeous meadows, black bears and the worlds largest trees.

1. Giant Forest - Home of the Worlds Largest Tree
Home to the General Sherman Tree, the worlds largest tree measured by volume. The General Sherman Tree stands 275 feet (83m) tall, and over 36 feet (11m) in diameter.

2. Crescent Meadow
The trail around crescent meadow is a fairly easy 1.6-mile hike, suitable for children and those who don't like steep grades.

3. Auto Log - On the Crescent Meadow Road
The Auto Log fell down in 1917. After the tree fell, park authorities encouraged visitors to drive their cars onto the trunk.

4. Tunnel Log
The tunnel log tree fell in 1934 and was over 2,000 years old. To get to tunnel log follow the Crescent Meadow road.

5. Bear spotting
Black bears live in Sequoia National Park. American Black Bears have a misleading name, because they may be black, brown, cinnamon or blonde in color.

Kings Canyon National Park is adjacent to Sequoia National Park. Some of Kings is similar to Sequoia hosting giant Sequoia trees in the upper elevations.
