Mendocino is an unincorporated community in Mendocino County, California, United States. Mendocino is located 9.5 miles south of Fort Bragg, at an elevation of 154 feet . The population of the census-designated place was 894 at the 2010 census, up from 824 at the 2000 census. The town's name comes from Cape Mendocino, named by early Spanish navigators in honor of Antonio de Mendoza, Viceroy of New Spain. In turn, the etymology of Mendoza is cold mountain. Despite its small size, the town's scenic location on a headland surrounded by the Pacific Ocean has made it extremely popular as an artist colony and with vacationers.

Sea glass and beach glass are similar but come from two different types of water. Sea glass is physically and chemically weathered glass found on beaches along bodies of salt water. These weathering processes produce natural frosted glass. Genuine sea glass can be collected as a hobby and is used for decoration, most commonly in jewelry. Beach glass comes from fresh water and in most cases has a different pH balance and a less frosted appearance than sea glass. Sea glass takes 20 to 40 years, and sometimes as much as 100 years, to acquire its characteristic texture and shape. Sometimes also colloquially referred to as Drift glass from the longshore drift process that forms the smooth edges. In practice, the two terms are used interchangeably.

The Chandelier Tree in Drive-Thru Tree Park is a 276-foot tall coast redwood tree in Leggett, California with a 6-foot wide by 6-foot-9-inch high hole cut through its base to allow a car to drive through. Its base measures 16 ft diameter at breast height . The sign claims 315 ft. high and 21 ft. wide, but a Certified Arborist experienced with tallest redwoods, using a laser rangefinder, measured the tree as 276 ft. high and 16 ft. diameter. The name Chandelier Tree comes from its unique limbs that resemble a chandelier. The limbs, which measure from 4 to 7 ft in diameter, begin 100 ft above the ground. This is a perfect beach for viewing sunset. The rocks in the beach make the sunset pictures beautiful.

Jug Handle State Reserve and Beach
It’s a small and beautiful beach. Beach is covered by hills on two sides, which makes the place less windy & allows only the breeze from the ocean. An ideal place for photos & sunset viewing.

Russian Gulch State Park
An awesome place for camping. Even if you are not camping, trails are exciting. Fern Canyon trails takes you to 40 feet waterfalls.

Russian Gulch State Park Waterfall Hike in Mendocino

Hiking the Fern Canyon Trail to the waterfall in Russian Gulch State Park. This trail is north of Mendocino in a fantastic state park that you need to check out. It is one of my favorite parks along this stretch of the coast and if you only have a few minutes to explore, be sure to go to the overlook and see the views of the bridge. If you have more time to explore the park, then take this 5-mile round trip hike to the waterfall.
