Cooma is a town in the south of New South Wales, Australia. It is located 114 kilometres south of the national capital, Canberra, via the Monaro Highway. It is also on the Snowy Mountains Highway, connecting Bega with the Riverina. At the 2016 census, Cooma had a population of 6,742. Cooma is the main town of the Monaro region. It is 800 metres above sea level. The name could have derived from an Aboriginal word Coombah, meaning 'big lake' or 'open country'.Cooma was explored by Captain J. M. Currie in 1823.     Mogo Zoo is a small privately owned zoo in Mogo, on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia. It is a member of ARAZPA and has had success in breeding programs for endangered species, including the snow leopard, cotton-top tamarin, Black-and-white ruffed lemur, red panda, and Sumatran tiger. It is one of only two zoos in Australia that exhibits white lions . Unlike most small Australian zoos, Mogo Zoo focuses on exotic species. It is owned by Sally Padey.
