Hanwood is a town in the central Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The town is located 5 kilometres south of Griffith, New South Wales and is in the City of Griffith local government area. At the 2011 census, Hanwood had a population of 1,490.Hanwood Post Office opened on 1 January 1921.Hanwood is known for its wineries, in particular the McWilliam's winery established in 1913. In 1973 the Big Wine Barrel was completed, forming the cellar door tasting rooms. They have a wide array of wines, bottles and memorabilia displayed in the 17m long museum.

  • 2. Hermits Cave Griffith
    The Hermit's Cave, situated on Scenic Hill on the northeastern outskirts of Griffith, New South Wales, Australia, is in fact a complex of stone structures. Misleadingly called 'The Hermit's Cave', the site in reality comprises a complex of shelters, terraced gardens, exotic plants, water-cisterns, dry-stone walling and linking bridges, stairways and paths that stretch intermittently across more than a kilometre of the escarpment. Made single-handedly by a reclusive Italian migrant, Valerio Ricetti, these structures involved the moving of hundreds of tons of stone and earth, together with the ingenious incorporation of natural features in the landscape.
